This is The Deep Dive – Podcast Talk About “I Was Born in the Belly of New Yawk” – a poem by Rob Sienna / b. plainwilder
Here is the poem that the above Podcast talks about:
I Was Born in the Belly of New Yawk
I Was Born In the Belly of New Yawk
In a crowded room
crowned by Her Radiance
the benevolent all seeing Statue of Liberty
I came of age suddenly
a gritty Free Speech Trumpeter
on St. John’s and Fifth
reporters interviewed me then
Angels at my Side
Truthfully I hoped and prayed by far out glowing embers
I would try and try
to triumph over challenges
Motivated through and through
I always hoped to be
the best me that was possible
I squatted three times bodyweight easily in youth
became a U.S. champion just to prove I could
Schooled by mega artful and creative souls
I’d be inspired to bust through
surprisingly Relentless
I’d be sure to innovate
Peeling back the bleakest
blackest emptiness of all
aligning with this Universe tangled in a ball
I Was Born In the Belly of New Yawk
I would try and try
to triumph over challenges
Exuberant & Confident
I’d tap into abilities that lifted me from strife
At times I would miss
but determined not to flail
i’d learn from falling flat
always to a certain humble nature I’d return
Acknowledging what I’d done wrong
Understanding this
Could build me up
make me strong
I Was Born In the Belly of New Yawk
In a crowded room
crowned by Her Radiance
the benevolent all seeing Statue of Liberty
That big beautiful gift from France
symbolizing open doors to
Freedom and romance
I Was Born In the Belly of New Yawk
Ranging the horizon
a freewheeling hawk
sending up my singularly literary squawk
